As an Actuarial Intern, you will be responsible for actuarial and statistical analyses that support our business objectives. This will include collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data relating to our product pricing, rating algorithms, and loss reserves. Additionally, there will be many opportunities to learn about and collaborate with other functional areas within the company.
Actuarial Intern's Duties and responsibilities :
Use current research and statistical techniques to analyze coverage profitability and price adequacy
Assist in the preparation and implementation of product rate proposals
Assist in the maintenance, validation, and analysis of actuarial datasets
Prepare reports and provide relevant summaries to management
Assist in the gathering and analysis of loss reserving and of loss frequency and severity information
Apply technical skills by building queries in SQL and reviewing, editing, and writing code in Python
Recognize and apply best practices and create enhancements in work products
Provide support to other departments within the company with various analyses/reports to evaluate business performance
Report to work on a regular and timely basis
Qualifications of an Actuarial Intern:
Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree with major in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent required
Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam preferred
Interest in learning about P&C insurance and achieving membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society
Competent with Microsoft programs, with reasonable proficiency in Excel
Some knowledge of programming such as Visual Basic and macros
Familiarity with various analytical and modeling software such as Python, R, or SAS helpful
Excellent oral and written communication skills, self-driven, and strong quantitative, analytical, and interpersonal skills
