Position Description
Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) is looking for someone with strong relationship-building and analytical skills for our 12-month, full-time training program as a risk services trainee. This program includes formal instruction, self-study, and on the job field experience with our customers. Following successful completion of this program, the individual will be promoted to a risk service representative role, providing risk assessment and risk improvement service to a book of medium and large customers. The trainee and subsequent risk services representative roles will be based out of the Chicago area with overnight travel of up to 25% to the surrounding states. This role is well-suited for individuals who are comfortable managing their own work, meeting and working with new people regularly, using both analytical and creative problem-solving techniques, and being part of a team working towards shared goals.
Duties
- 12 month training program, including formal instruction, self-study, and on the job/field experience
- Provides risk management support to external customers and internal stakeholders
- Contributes, under supervision, to risk assessments and service plan implementation
A typical day
- Formal instruction modules and self-study training modules; content includes safety and risk management fundamentals, commercial insurance basics, and consulting strategies
- Conducts onsite risk assessments with manager or senior consultant – initially as an observer, transitioning over time to taking the lead on these customer meetings
- Responsibilities during onsite risk assessments include: documenting fundamental facts and observations, analyzing exposures and controls, developing/delivering recommendations for risk improvement, and providing positive marketing of PHLY
- Participates and/or takes the lead on risk management projects
- Learns risk management and loss prevention programs for specific PHLY products and applies knowledge to routine customer and agency meetings
- Supports and learns about relevant safety legislation and regulation as well as current loss experiences for a given product area
