Drake University’s School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management (SoASRM) is seeking candidates for a full-time Visiting Professorship with an anticipated start date of January 25 or August 24, 2021. The duties of the position include teaching and research that support the SoASRM. We are looking for a candidate with an existing research record, including publications in actuarial journals and ongoing research related to actuarial science and risk management.
Successful candidates will present evidence of teaching excellence. The ability to teach courses related to insurance, data analytics, and finance is preferred, but not required. Additionally, experience teaching in an online or hybrid environment is desirable. The candidate may have the opportunity to teach at the graduate level or within the Master of Jurisprudence program. The candidate will be expected to participate in service activities that may include advising students and student organizations, developing curricula, and outreach to the local insurance community.
Applicants must have an earned Doctorate degree in actuarial science or a closely related field. Applicants are required to be qualified according to AACSB standards. Relevant actuarial credentials (e.g., ACAS, ASA, FCAS, FSA) are preferred, but not essential. Casualty credentials are welcome.
The SoASRM is part of Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA). The SoASRM holds the Center of Actuarial Excellence designation given by the Society of Actuaries and the Global Center of Insurance Excellence designation given by the International Insurance Society. The CBPA is accredited by the AACSB and offers strong undergraduate programs with over 1,000 students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in one or more of the College’s 11 majors. The CBPA’s graduate program offers four degrees to over 500 graduate students: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Data Analytics Leadership (MDAL), and Master of Accounting (MAcc).
