As a SeniorMS-SQL Database Administrator at ICW Group, you will administer and maintain all database server systems and software. Each day offers new challenges as you tackle a variety of tasks including:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Database Planning, Design and Review • Plans and implements standards for the installation, configuration, administration and management of all database systems. Standardization to include “Best Practice” methodologies for database design, security, tools, programming techniques, policies and procedures. • Provides technical guidance to Application Developers in database planning, design and performance optimization. Evaluates 3rd Party application systems for database functionality, security and performance. • Reviews database design and integration with application systems and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements.
Reviews code and database changes to production and test systems in support of ICW Change Management process and procedure
Installation & Configuration
• Installs and configures SQL Server including clustering, default collation, file locations, number of instances, and service accounts. Evaluates, tests and performs Service Pack updates and SQL Server upgrades. Troubleshoots failed installations.
• Configures linked servers, DTS packages, data replication and network libraries. Sets database options to properly size and place transaction logs. Creates and manages objects including constraints, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
Performance Tuning & Optimization• Configures database options for performance. Considerations include capacity planning, network connectivity, physical drive configurations, and storage locations. • Optimizes database performance. Considerations include indexing, locking, and recompiling. • Utilizes database tuning and optimization programs or utilities (SQL Profiler, Index Tuning Wizard, etc.) to enhance database performance and application response times. Security • Coordinates with IT Security to plan and implement a Database Security Plan to control data access using stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions, and views. Defines object level security and restricts direct access to data and tables by users and developers. • Coordinates with IT Security the management and administration of database users, security privileges, and database roles to control, monitor and audit all access to all database systems. • Ensures compliance with Regulatory requirements for the protection of Personal Information or other “Sensitive” data stored within any ICW database systems.
Monitoring & Maintenance • Monitors the availability and reliability of database-related functions and processes. • Monitors database performance, backups, and database integrity. • Implement and monitor database maintenance plans. • Backup and Recovery • Implement and maintain backup and recovery process and procedures for all database systems.
Other duties as assigned by the Manager Infrastructure & Engineering.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline from a four-year college or university.
6+ years related experience as a MS SQL Server database administrator required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven Work Experience and Knowledge of the following:
Transact-SQL to develop and maintain SQL scripts;
Relational data modeling, dimensional data modeling, data warehousing, performance and tuning;
MS SQL database troubleshooting and performance tuning;
Using 3rd party database utilities and applications to architect and optimize performance of MS SQL databases;
Installing and configuring MS SQL, architecting, configuring and performing backup and recovery operations, support/implement data replication and log shipping, database recovery and consistency checks, database design and operational support;
Designing, implementing and maintaining MS SQL jobs, maintenance plans and DTS packages;
Designing, implementing and maintaining database security;
Supporting and maintaining production databases in a 24/7 environment utilizing Active/Active and Active/Passive clustering and other high availability technologies;
Familiarity with a business intelligence reporting tool such as Crystal Reports, Business Objects or Microsoft Reporting Services desired;
Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL database technologies; and Insurance industry experience is preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, or legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively.
Ability to effectively present information to ICW staff and members of management.
The following certifications are desired: MCDBA SQL 2012 and MCSE WIN 2012.
