2017 Summer Nationwide Product Internship Position
The product intern will work with the Commercial Lines Product Team. The candidate will work in both a team and independent atmosphere to formulate conclusions, analyze data, and develop recommendations to support the Product Managers on the team. The intern must possess quantitative skills and be able to multi-task on several projects. The internship will be held over the summer month for approximately a 10 to 12 week period.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to: Supervisor and Mentor. The Mentor relationship will help the candidate get involved and provide support to the individual as needed.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze large data sets to make strategic business decisions with the guidance of Product Managers.
Evaluate competitors’ products to identify key concepts to research and share findings.
Track competitor rate changes and market share.
Demonstrate the willingness to be engaged and try new things.
Participate in department and company meetings.
Complete training related to insurance as well as computer applications that the applicant will be working with.
Answer questions about products, coverages, or discounts from agents and others associated with Nationwide.
Complete a project with other interns at Nationwide and present in front of senior leadership at the end of the summer
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: In pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, Math, Insurance, Business Management or a related field of study. Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred. Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience. 3.0 GPA or higher is desired.
Experience: Previous insurance knowledge is preferred. Candidate should be familiar with problem solving and analysis. Experience working independently and with others in a team environment.
Skills/Competencies: Must be able to operate personal computer and have basic keyboarding skills. Good verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts. Ability to recognize problems, determine appropriate actions, implement solutions, and use judgment when appropriate. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and a strong technical aptitude will be preferred. Fast learner and willing to challenge yourself everyday.
