Full Time - Internship
The Intern will report to the Vice President of the Claims Department. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the intern will be to: promptly contact claimants to acknowledge receipt of auto claims (non bodily injury) and third party claims, verify coverage level and deductibles on new claims, pay and settle claims within his/her authority or receive approval from his/her supervisors for claims in amounts over intern's authority, handling approximately 40 - 45 claims a month in addition to his/her assistant duties, handle subrogation and salvage recovery, collect and enter information in the claims system, provide customer service to claimants by assisting telephone callers with questions and requests. The intern will work closely with appropriate claims supervisor to ensure claims are concluded in a timely fashion, process, sort and distribute mail, process filing for entire claims department, type letters and various other correspondences for claims department.
The following Knowledge and Skills are required:
Some prior office experience, preferably in an insurance setting
Basic MS Office and typing skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, including professional telephone manner
Strong organizational skills
Ability to interact with a wide variety of different personalities professional
Ability to handle difficult situations calmly and rationally
High School Diploma or GED
Physical Requirements: Ability to hear, speak clearly and to sit for extended periods of time
